The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a 13-member National Caretaker Committee to steer the party’s affairs following the expiration of the tenure of the current National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
The decision was ratified on Sunday, December 7, at the party’s 104th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja, where leaders agreed that an interim structure was necessary to maintain organisational stability ahead of the national convention.
Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed was appointed Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, while Senator Samuel Anyanwu was named Secretary.
NEC noted that both men, along with the other appointed members, were selected to ensure broad representation across the party’s geopolitical zones and strategic organs.
Other members of the committee include National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN); National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature; Dr Kyari Grema; Hon. Janguda Haruna Mohammed; Barr. Okechukwu Osuana; Senator Nwogu Olaka; Senator Sandy Onor; Prof. Adenike Ogunse; Hon. Bisi Kolawole; Engr. Deji Doherty and Dr Ibrahim Bala Aboki.
The Caretaker Committee is mandated to oversee the party for a 60-day period, during which all outstanding congresses across states must be concluded, and preparations finalised for the national convention.
NEC emphasised that the committee would function strictly within the confines of the party constitution to ensure a seamless transition to a newly elected leadership.
Party stakeholders at the meeting expressed confidence that the interim leadership would stabilise internal processes and reposition the PDP ahead of critical electoral engagements.
