The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed suggestions that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, could permanently align with the ruling All Progressives Congress, insisting that the former Rivers State governor remains one of its most valuable political assets despite serving in the APC-led Federal Government.
The party said it has no intention of relinquishing Wike, describing him as a loyal member whose contributions to the PDP over the years remain invaluable.
Naija News reports that the PDP’s position followed recent remarks by the National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, who publicly praised Wike’s performance and leadership while commissioning a project in Abuja on Tuesday.
Reacting in a statement on Wednesday, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said the APC chairman’s commendation amounted to a public acknowledgement of the quality of leadership within the opposition party.
According to him, the praise further demonstrated that the PDP remains home to some of Nigeria’s most competent and result-oriented political leaders.
“The Peoples Democratic Party has noted with amusement the candid acknowledgment by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, of the remarkable contributions, exceptional leadership, and outstanding performance of one of the PDP’s finest assets, the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency, Chief Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, during the commissioning of a major project in Abuja,” the statement read.
“The commendation by the APC National Chairman is yet another public acknowledgement of the quality, competence, and leadership capacity that the PDP continues to offer Nigeria. It also reinforces the fact that the PDP remains home to some of the country’s most accomplished and result-oriented leaders.”
‘Wike Remains PDP Member’
The opposition party stressed that Wike’s appointment in the APC-led administration should not be interpreted as a political defection or indication of plans to leave the PDP.
It maintained that the FCT minister remains a committed and loyal member of the party.
“However, while we welcome the open admiration expressed by the APC National Chairman and the glowing accolades showered on our national leader, it is necessary to clarify that Barrister Wike remains a committed and loyal member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
“As Professor Yilwatda himself implied, Barrister Wike’s engagement with the APC-led administration is best described as a loan arrangement, and we wish to state unequivocally that the agreement contains no provision whatsoever for a permanent transfer deal,” the party stated.
‘Wike Is Not For Sale’
The PDP said it would firmly resist any attempt to lure Wike away from the party, insisting that there were no ongoing discussions, hidden clauses or future arrangements that could lead to a permanent move.
“We further wish to state that the PDP has no intention whatsoever of parting with one of its most valuable political assets, regardless of any offers or overtures that may be made. The APC is therefore advised to refrain from entertaining any hopes of a permanent acquisition, as such a move would be firmly resisted.
“The PDP is not in the business of disposing of its finest political talents. Barrister Nyesom Wike remains one of the party’s most valuable assets, and there are no plans, ongoing negotiations, hidden clauses, or future options that would permit a permanent move,” the opposition party noted.
The party added that Wike’s service in the current administration neither changes his political identity nor diminishes his loyalty to the PDP.
“His service in the current APC-led administration should not be misconstrued as a possible political transfer. It does not in any way alter his political identity or diminish his longstanding loyalty, commitment, and immense contributions to the Peoples Democratic Party,” it said.
The party also commended Wike’s stewardship as FCT minister, arguing that his achievements in infrastructure development and urban renewal have earned him recognition across political divides.
“It is not in doubt that, through his visionary leadership, commitment to service, and execution of numerous landmark projects, Barrister Wike has transformed critical aspects of the nation’s capital, earning commendation from citizens across political, ethnic and religious divides,” the statement added.
“The PDP is proud of his exceptional performance as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.”
According to the party, Wike’s achievements serve as evidence of the competence and governance capacity that the PDP has consistently produced in public office.
The party further argued that the APC chairman’s praise underscores Wike’s political relevance and influence in national politics.
It urged Nigerians to support the PDP in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party possesses a reservoir of capable leaders who can drive national development and provide effective governance.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
