Olabode George, a former deputy national chairman of the People’ s Democratic Party, has finally opened up on why he believes the People’ s Democratic Party’ s National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, should step down from his position.
George explained on Friday when he appeared on Arise TV’ s The Morning Show that the reason he made the call is to ensure that there is balance within the party. He said this during his interview.
He went on to say that if Ayu resigned, it would help the main opposition party to convince Nigerians to vote for them during the election that will take place next year.
He claimed that calling for Ayu’ s resignation was legal and by the constitution because the PDP chairman had already stated that he would step down if the party’ s presidential candidate came from the north.
It was earlier reported on Thursday that Gorge had demanded Ayu designation during a press conference in Lagos.
George believes that the current structure of the party, in which individuals from the north now hold the position of presidential and national chairman cannot continue to stand.
However, in a statement made on Friday, Goerge explained the reasoning behind his support for Ayu’ s resignation by saying, ” Of course, we will have one or two dissenting voices but facts are facts and fiction is fiction. The founding fathers of our party gathered together in 1998 and intentionally look at the problems that have beset Nigeria and came out with a suggested solution that we should divide Nigeria into six geopolitical zones because, in the First Republic, the majority of tribes have their way and say. The minority tribes were just onlookers; same in the north and same in the south.
