PDP Crisis Deepens as Bala Mohammed, Saraki Take Charge of Reconciliation

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Senate President Bukola Saraki are set to spearhead reconciliation talks aimed at bridging the deep divide between the two warring factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Sources indicate that informal communications have already begun between the camps loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led leadership and the faction associated with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. A formal reconciliation process is expected to commence after the Sallah festivities.

The PDP has faced a prolonged leadership crisis stemming from the controversial elective National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025. The convention, endorsed by PDP governors including Bala Mohammed of Bauchi and Seyi Makinde of Oyo, elected Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as National Chairman along with other members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

This led to the immediate handover of leadership from the then-acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to Turaki ahead of Damagum’s tenure expiration on December 9, 2025. The convention also resulted in the expulsion of Nyesom Wike and his allies from the party.

In response, the Wike camp announced its own National Caretaker Committee, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed. The situation escalated when the Court of Appeal nullified the Ibadan convention, upholding a Federal High Court ruling that deemed it non-compliant with the party’s constitution and electoral laws. This barred the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the Turaki-led NWC.

Following the appellate court’s decision, both factions have shifted toward reconciliation, initially under the guidance of the PDP Board of Trustees chaired by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara.

A source close to one of the factions revealed that a seven-member committee formed by the Turaki faction—led by Governor Bala Mohammed—met recently to outline their demands ahead of engagements with the Wike side.

The source explained that Governor Mohammed is positioned to lead the Turaki-aligned group in the reconciliation committee, while former Senate President Bukola Saraki has been selected by the Wike faction to represent their interests.

The two committees are expected to convene after Sallah to harmonize their positions. The agreed terms will then be submitted to the Appeal Court in Ibadan for ratification, making them binding on all PDP members.

“The reconciliation committee was initially scheduled to meet, but that has been deferred. Currently, the seven-man committee set up by the PDP governors, under Governor Bala Mohammed, is compiling their demands,” the source said.

“The Wike faction will do the same. Post-Sallah, the two sides will meet to align their positions.”The source emphasized that any consensus reached by the committees will be binding across the party, paving the way for unified operations moving forward.

The PDP leadership crisis has weakened the main opposition party ahead of future elections, with ongoing defections and internal rifts prompting urgent calls for unity from stakeholders.

(The hidden truth)

Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor.
