As the call for the resignation of the Peoples Democratic Party’ s national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, reverberated yesterday at the South- West PDP stakeholders conference, it became clear that the crisis wracking the PDP is far from over.
The vote of confidence given to Ayu and the National Working Committee (NWC) by the 97th national executive committee (NEC) of the main opposition party seems to have prevented attempts to have him removed from office one week prior.
But yesterday, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde demanded that Ayu must step down as PDP national chairman, giving the campaign to have Ayu removed a new lease.

According to the Punch, Chief Adolphus Wabara, the recently appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party and a former Senate President, has started critical steps to preserve the main opposition party from impending collapse.
In order to meet three of the PDP governors who are displeased, he is leading a delegation of the PDP BoT that includes some former governors, ex- deputy governors, ex- ministers, and other top party chieftains. This meeting will take place within 48 hours.
The purpose of the conference is to appease the disgruntled governors and set the stage for additional conversations that will halt efforts by the governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress to win over PDP governors as the race to the 2023 election heats up.
