‘Peter Obi Isn’t Relevant In The South East; Igbo Presidency Isn’t Achievable

The senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has started that he’s the most important politician in the South East.

This was just as he dismissed suggestions that the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, is his leader.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Kalu said he has achieved more politically than Obi, citing his past electoral and administrative records.

“Peter is not my leader. I’m the most important politician from that zone. I have won two states before under the PPA. I have run for president before. My 4.9 million votes are still there since 2007,” Kalu said.

He added that his political influence extended to the federal level during the administration of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

“I achieved a lot with PPA. We had ministers, ambassadors, and several appointments under President Yar’Adua,” he said.

Challenging Obi to a debate, Kalu said: “Arrange in your studio a meeting between me and Peter Obi. Put two of us in the same place.”

Speaking on the forthcoming 2027 general elections, the former Abia state governor asserted that it is unlikely for Igbo to produce Nigerian president.

“Igbo needs presidency, yes. But I’m caged up in a party where I have signed to renominate president Tinubu.

“The party I belong to has chosen a presidential candidate which is president Tinubu. We have made a decision as a party to field Tinubu for the second term even though I feel it’s for Igbo president, those thoughts are no longer feasible,” he said.
