Plateau Assembly Nullifies Impeachment Of Langtang North Council Boss

Plateau Assembly

Plateau State House of Assembly has nullified the impeachment process of Executive Chairman of Langtang North Local Council, Zulfa Bitrus Rimven, carried out by some members of the legislature.

Some legislators of the council, had, on Tuesday, carried out the process, following which Rimven was impeached by 14 out of 18 councillors.

During plenary, yesterday, the House of Assembly declared that the purported impeachment was null and void, and directed that the status quo should be maintained, pending the outcome of a committee’s investigation.

The Speaker, Yakubu Sanda, declared there was no official communication from the legislators for removal of the chairman. It followed a motion raised by the member representing Pankshin South, Philip Dasun, which was seconded by the member representing Shendam Local Council at the State Assembly.

Speaking on the development, Rimven said he remained the council boss, and would continue to work out modalities to improve the lives of people in the grassroots. He described the vote of no confidence passed on him as scandalous, irritating and laughable.

He said was not served any impeachment notice, not to talk of failing to respond to any allegations the legislators raised. On the allegations of corruption levelled against him by some legislators, Rimven said: “These are lies. As the executive chairman of Langtang North, my relationship with my councillors, we are one big family and we would resolve our differences soon.”

He also thanked the Speaker, the people of the state and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for their support.
