President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians of his administration’s commitment to enhancing the safety and security of schools for teaching and learning.
Ajuri Ngelale, the President’s special adviser on Media and Publicity, affirmed this stance in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.
The President reiterated this pledge upon receiving news of the release of the Kuriga schoolchildren in Kaduna State.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, bandits abducted 287 pupils and teachers on March 7 from the Local Government Education Authority Teachers Primary School in Kuriga, located in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.
The bandits demanded a ransom of one billion naira for the release of the children.
However, following President Tinubu’s directive for their immediate release without ransom, security agencies have been diligently pursuing the perpetrators. President Tinubu stressed the importance of collaboration between the federal government and states, particularly concerning security matters.
Furthermore, President Tinubu commended the National Security Adviser, security agencies, and the Kaduna State Government for their prompt and efficient handling of the situation. He highlighted the necessity of urgency, meticulous attention, and tireless dedication in achieving optimal outcomes in cases of mass abductions.
Moreover, President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the release of pupils from a Tsangaya school in Sokoto State, praising all involved parties for their courageous efforts. Ngelale reiterated the President’s commitment to deploying comprehensive strategies to ensure that schools remain safe havens for learning, rather than targets for rampant abductions.

“The President assures Nigerians that his administration is deploying detailed strategies to ensure that our schools remain safe sanctuaries of learning, not lairs for wanton abductions,” Mr Ngelale said.
