Presidential Election: Bode George, Jandor Condemn Attack On Non-Indigenes In Lagos

LAGOS – Chief Olabode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Lagos State gubernatorial candidate of the party, Dr. Olajide Adediran, popularly called, Jandor have condemned the attack on non-indigenes, following the results of last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

George, in a statement through his Senior Special Adviser on Media, Olusegun Edwards, condemned the attacks on non-indigenes, particularly the Igbo, stating that such uncivilized act is not part of Lagos culture from time immemorial

He noted that Lagos has been home to all Nigerians, irrespective of tribe, creed, religion and even nationality.

“Lagos has been home to everybody. It has accommodated everybody since I was born several years ago, we don’t discriminate against anybody. That is why we have the popular saying, in our local dialect, that “Lagos is a pot of water, which all and sundry drinks from, and it can never go dry”.

He chided some band of thugs who were said to have issued threats against Igbo indigenes for voting for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, querying the audacity to issue threats against people’s decision to vote for the candidate of their choice.

The PDP chieftain said, “What audacity do they have to be intimidating people? It is a most irresponsible act to be threatening people over an election. It shows these characters are not civil in their approach to life.

He advised people against being led by politicians to attack their fellow human beings, saying such an act is inhuman and illogical, stating that the people should turn down the overtures of politicians who wouldn’t dare to recruit their own children into the band of thugs.

In a related development, the Lagos State PDP governorship candidate Dr. Olajide Adediran has condemned the reported cases of attacks on the Igbos and non-Yoruba speaking residents in the state by suspected All Progressives Congress (APC) sponsored thugs because of the outcome of the presidential election in the state.

Adediran decried the inhuman treatment meted on the electorates in some Local Government areas of the states predominantly populated by non-Yoruba speaking residents. He lampooned the state governor, Mr. Sanwo-Olu for failing to play his role as the Chief Security Officer of the state by condemning the attacks and beefing up security around the areas the attack is happening.

It would be recalled that Jandor had earlier paid a visit and extended support to Mrs. Bina Jennifer Efidi, one of the victims of the attack and injured by suspected thugs loyal to the ruling APC at her polling unit in Surulere area of the state during the presidential and National Assembly on Saturday.

He condoled with the people who have been attacked and who suffered the loss of property in the fracas and called on the good people of the state to continue to keep the peace and remain resolute in their readiness to change the government in the state through their votes in the March 11 governorship election.
