Reactions As NAFDAC Says 70% Of Nigerian Foods Are Rejected Abroad

Professor Mojisola Adeyeye, Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), revealed that more than 70% of Nigerian food exports are rejected abroad.

Professor Adeyeye made the remarks during the ceremonial launching of the new NAFDAC office complex for the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Adeyeye stated that the agency’s continued concern is the deplorable state of export trade facilitation for regulated products leaving the country, adding that a visit to NAFDAC export storage facilities within the international airport will explain the major reason for the continuous rejection of Nigerian exports abroad.

She did, however, mention that the agency is reacting to the challenge by working with authorities at the ports to ensure that goods fulfil the regulatory criteria of the importing countries and destinations.

As expected, this development elicited reactions on Twitter as it was shared by PUNCH on their official handle.

A Twitter user identified as Godsgift C. Ejiama said, “It is a wake-up call for the agency to up their game in maintaining the standards required by the international bodies so as to curb the rejection rates.”

General Hussein said, “And we keep accepting theirs.”
