Residents injured as thugs attack Lagos community

Ten persons have been reportedly injured following attacks on Oteyi Garden estate in Abule-Ado, Amuwo-Odofin LGA of Lagos state.

Governorship and state assembly polls were held across the country on Saturday.

The suspected thugs were also said to have attacked some voters on Saturday in the LGA.

A resident of the the estate, who identified himself as AbdulAzeez, told TheCable that the attacks started while members of the community were in a queue to vote on Saturday.

He added that on Sunday morning, some residents of the estate who were on their way to church were also attacked by suspected thugs.

In response to the attacks, AbdulAzeez said members of the community staged a protest after which security operatives were deployed to the area.

Another resident of the area identified as Prince told TheCable that those injured were receiving treatment at a hospital in Festac.

“The army and the police are here now to restore peace. We have been living peacefully here. We have never experienced shooting of gun here before until this election,” Prince said.

When contacted to comment on the incident, Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson of the Lagos police command, did not respond to calls or messages.
