Review of the Table and Matches Following Tuesday’s Games

Watford pulled off an incredible comeback against Norwich City to win 3-2 and increase their lead in their head-to-head series to eight victories in nine encounters.

As expected, the game at Vicarage Road started off quickly, with Danny Batth heading home Gabriel Sara’s corner after just three minutes. Norwich’s advantage was increased by Hwang Ui-jo’s incredible long-range strike, which appeared to put Watford in danger of losing.

However, in a stunning turn of events, Norwich relinquished their 2-0 advantage, conceding two quick goals. Ismaël Koné showcased his prowess with a powerful strike from 25 yards, and Watford’s in-form Mileta Rajović leveled the score by heading home from Jamal Lewis’ delivery.

As the first half concluded, Norwich, undoubtedly rattled by their sudden downturn, found relief in the break. The second half saw Watford applying relentless pressure, with Koné’s effort striking the bar. Despite being on the back foot, Norwich, under the management of David Wagner, displayed resilience in fending off Watford’s attacks.

The key moment arrived when Asprilla tapped into an empty net after George Long parried Wesley Hoedt’s initial effort. This decisive goal sealed a pulsating victory for Watford, reigniting their playoff aspirations. On the flip side, Norwich, having squandered a 2-0 lead, faces a more challenging situation, amplifying the pressure on their manager, David Wagner. The thrilling encounter showcased Watford’s determination and Norwich’s resilience, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

Elsewhere, West Bromwich Albion maintained their pursuit of Championship promotion with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Cardiff. Jeremy Sarmiento’s second-half strike secured the visitors their fifth win in six matches as they strive to end a three-year absence from the Premier League.

The opening half-hour saw minimal goal-scoring opportunities, with both sides registering just one wayward shot each. Cardiff, known for their solid defense, had conceded only four goals before the break in the Championship. West Brom came closest to breaking the deadlock before halftime when Sarmiento’s shot hit the post in a rapid counter-attack.

The second half brought a shift in dynamics as Sarmiento, in splendid fashion, cut into the area from the left and curled the ball into the far corner to give West Brom the lead. Cardiff struggled to mount a response, frustrating their home crowd, which had witnessed just one defeat in their last seven South Wales fixtures. Despite late attempts to equalize, including off-target shots from Rubin Colwill and Josh Bowler, Cardiff couldn’t break through.

The defeat marked Cardiff’s fourth loss in nine games, while West Brom closed the gap on the top two in the Championship standings.
