The Eastern region of Zambia had its peace swept away yesterday by a school pupil who snatched his teacher’s newly wedded wife right under his nose.
Mekelani Banda, a grade 12 pupil of a named secondary school in Chipata was asked to appear before the court and explain why of all things he piled the guts to snatch his teacher’s wife. In a local court, the 19 year old denied ever snatching someone’s wife
He further told the court that Mirriam Banda was his girlfriend at primary school before even before Mr. Chilufya, proposed love to her
“Mirriam ni munda wanga,” he sobbed uncontrollably in the court forcing the judge to use his handkerchief.
With tears, Mekelani explained how much he suffered to raise money for Mirriam’s upkeep.
“At times I could dodge class just to go and do piece works for the sake of her. I had to stop school for 2 years to do peace works and find money to sponsor her to school.
And last year, I was only told that one of my teachers is about to marry the only woman I have ever loved in Eastern province.
“It happened so fast, I don’t know why some teachers cannot just see a young beautiful girl and leave her alone”, he said.
The case became even more delicate when Mr Chilufya told the court that Mekelani has been taking advantage of his wife whenever he is busy with school related work.
Yesterday, the matter could not be solved as hell broke loose in the court when the named teacher tried to take the law in his hands. He pushed the dock and reached for the boy until the police intervened. The teacher was nearly charged with contempt of court
The case has been adjourned and the two rivals are expected to appear before the magistrate court in the next hearing in April
