The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the nomination of Professor Melvin D. Ayogu as a member of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Board of Directors.
Ayogu was confirmed following the consideration and adoption of a report of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
President Bola Tinubu had, on Tuesday last week, sought the Senate’s approval of Ayogu as a member of the apex bank’s board.
Tinubu’s letter seeking approval for Ayogu was addressed to the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and was read at plenary.
“In compliance with the provisions of Section 10(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Establishment Act, 2007, I am pleased to present, for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Prof. Melvin D. Ayogu as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Nigeria. His curriculum vitae is attached herewith.
“The Senate is invited to kindly note that this nominee is to make up the number of the Board of Directors as provided by Section 6 of the CBN Act, 2007,” the president’s letter read in part.
The chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, was not available to present the report in person.
The report was presented on his behalf by the committee’s vice chairman, Senator Osita Izunaso. The confirmation came by voice vote.
