Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, is set to meet with market chairmen and secretaries across the state on Thursday to address the continued sit-at-home action by traders despite government orders to reopen markets.
Naija News reports that the meeting, scheduled for January 29, 2026, will be held at the International Convention Centre in Awka.
It was conveyed in a letter issued by the Ministry of Trade and Commerce and signed on behalf of the commissioner by the governor’s Special Adviser on Trade and Markets, Evarist Uba.
According to reports, the meeting was not called because of pressure from recent protests by traders.
Instead, it followed appeals from some market leaders who reached out to the state government, asking for understanding and a possible reopening of markets.
The invitation was extended to leaders of the Anambra State Market Traders Association, as well as chairmen and secretaries at zonal, market and line levels.
The gathering is expected to focus on issues affecting market activities across the state.
Tension had earlier risen at the Onitsha Main Market on Tuesday after the state government ordered its closure and deployed security officers to enforce the action.
Traders had continued to observe a sit-at-home in protest over the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu.
Reports indicate that security will be tight at the venue of the meeting, with all participants expected to undergo checks.
This measure is aimed at stopping any disruption or takeover of the meeting by separatist groups.
