Human rights activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2019 and 2023 general elections, Omoyele Sowore, has proposed N500,000 as the new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
Sowore made the proposal on Wednesday in a goodwill message on his X platform to mark this year’s May 1 Workers Day celebration.
The human rights activist and convener of #RevolutionNow, said that raising the national minimum wage to N500,000 for Nigerian workers had become imperative as cost of living, inflation, hardship and transportation costs had also skyrocketed including fuel hikes, increased energy tariffs, cable, skyrocketing school fees, housing costs and medical bills.
He said, “Wishing Nigeria’s toiling and suffering workers – in the formal and informal sector – a genuinely meaningful International Workers’ Day.
“Because of the cost of living, inflation, hardship, transportation costs, fuel hikes, increased energy tariffs, cable and internet costs, skyrocketing school fees, housing costs and medical bills.
“I propose that no Nigerian worker earn less than N500,000 per month as minimum wage! Life is just too hard for Nigerian workers.”...READ FULL ARTICLE
