Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle Hails Aubameyang-Led Gabon as ‘Impressive’ Ahead of World Cup Playoff Clash

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has spoken highly of Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup playoff opponents, Gabon, describing them as a technically gifted and well-organized side under an intelligent coach.

Speaking while on a brief visit to Portugal, Chelle revealed he has been keeping tabs on several Gabonese players, including star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

“I am here in Portugal to see my daughter, but I watched the game between Sporting and Marseille in the Champions League, and Aubameyang played in that game,” Chelle said.

“Gabon have a good team. They have great players like Aubameyang, Lemina, and Bruno Ecuele Manga. They also have a good coach with a solid philosophy. When the team plays, we can see they are impressive,” he added.

Chelle’s comments reflect his respect for Gabon’s quality as Nigeria prepares for the crucial playoff tie in Morocco, which will decide which nation earns a ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Nigerian coach emphasized that his side must be mentally and tactically sharp to overcome such a balanced opponent. “This is not a team we can underestimate. We must prepare well and stay focused. Every little detail will matter in a game like this,” he said.

With both nations determined to secure their spot at the World Cup, Chelle’s acknowledgment of Gabon’s strength sets the tone for what promises to be a thrilling and tactical showdown next month.
