Super Eagles playmaker expected to sign new long-term contract with Everton soon

Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the future of Super Eagles playmaker Alex Iwobi at Premier League club Everton.

The Toffees paid 28 million pounds to land the signature of the Hale End Academy product from Arsenal in 2019 plus an additional 7 million pounds in performance-related add-ons.

Having struggled in his first two and a half years at Everton, the 26-year-old got his groove back following the appointment of Frank Lampard in January 2022, becoming one of the fan favorites at the Merseyside club.

Iwobi will enter the last one year of his contract at the end of the 2022-2023 campaign and Everton have moved quickly to offer him a new contract.

Romano has suggested that negotiations went well and the Nigerian is now expected to sign a new long-term contract with Everton soon.

Iwobi is one of the top assist providers in the Premier League this term, with five in fifteen appearances, which is bettered only by Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (9) and Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka (6).

He has thrived in a central midfield role this season and was shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Month for September 2022.
