A look at the records of strikers in the 2023/24 season shows that only ten of them have made more than 15 attempts at goal ahead of September international break. Interestingly, the player on top of the pack is Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface. Let us take a look at these goal poachers.
Boniface has made 21 shots at goal in just three appearances this season. In his first Bundesliga game, the striker made 3 attempts in the colour of Leverkusen. However, only one was in target but he was denied a goal Leipzig shot stopper. The 2022/23 Europa League joint top scorer had 11 shots in his second domestic league match and 7 in the third. He was able to net 4 goals in the process.
The Super Eagles star is followed by 2022/23 Champions League golden boot winner, Erling Haaland. This Norwegian striker too 20 shots in 4 EPL matches within the period. Two of these attempts were from the penalty spot while the other 18 were from live play. The Manchester City forward took 4 shots in each of his first two Premier League games of the season. He added 12 in his next two clashes. The former Borussia Dortmund star had six goals to show for it.
Eberechi Eze, Odsounne Edouard and Robert Bozenik had 19 shots at goal each. The first two did it in the colours of Crystal Palace (England) while the third did it for Boavista (Portugal). Super Eagles star, Victor Osimhen, is next on the list with 18 shots for Napoli in the Italian top flight. The current AFCON qualifiers leading goalscorer is filled by Igor Paixao of Feyenoord and Rodrygo of Real Madrid who have 17 attempts apiece. Lautaro Martibez and his compatriot, Angel di Maria complete the list with 16 goal attempts each.
