Teenage Dispute Over N2000 Reportedly Turns Fatal in Benin City
A 14-year-old boy, identified as Prosper, has reportedly stabbed his friend, Osamede Osagbovo, to death during a dispute over money at Ramat Park, Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.
The tragic incident occurred while the teenagers were working as touts, assisting passengers with luggage and soliciting fares from motorists.
According to reports by Daily Trust, Prosper and Osamede had just earned N2,000 from their day’s work.
A disagreement reportedly arose when Prosper refused to divide the money equally, claiming he had contributed more effort than his friend. The dispute quickly escalated into a physical confrontation.
Eyewitnesses said that during the scuffle, Prosper allegedly ran to a nearby spot, picked up a bottle, and stabbed Osamede.
The victim reportedly collapsed and died instantly, before any medical help could arrive. The shocking scene drew the attention of bystanders, who were unable to prevent the tragedy.
Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), who were on routine patrol in the area, intervened promptly. The Corps swiftly apprehended Prosper and handed him over to the police for further investigation.
Confirming the arrest, ESSC Deputy Commander Richard Balogun said the suspect had been transferred to police custody for investigation and prosecution.
Authorities are now examining the incident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal stabbing.
