A video making the rounds on social media has shown human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore and other organizers of the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest running for their lives as police fired gunshots during the demonstration.

Naija News reports that security operatives, comprising police and military officers took over the protest grounds at about 7am, Monday morning.

In the video, Sowore could be seen running for his life, alongside other protesters.

The protesters intended to march to Aso Rock Villa to demand the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.

The Nigeria Police Force had warned the organizers against staging any protest near the Villa.
