Tension Rises as APC Chairman Yilwatda Questions Opposition’s Readiness

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has described the ongoing crises within several opposition parties as a troubling indication of their lack of readiness to lead the country.

Yilwatda made the remarks in Abuja while addressing issues related to Nigeria’s social, political, and economic governance.

He argued that any political party unable to effectively manage its internal affairs, resolve conflicts, enforce discipline, and build consensus among its members cannot be entrusted with governing a complex nation like Nigeria.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Strategy, Mr Abimbola Tooki, the APC chairman said the recurring internal conflicts, factional disputes, legal battles, personality clashes, and “ideological emptiness” seen in many opposition parties point to deeper structural flaws and poor leadership capacity.

He warned that it would be risky and irresponsible for Nigerians to entrust the country’s future to political actors who have failed to maintain stability within their own organisations.

“A party that cannot govern itself cannot govern Nigeria. If a political platform is constantly trapped in self-inflicted crises, consumed by internal sabotage, and weakened by poor management, it simply has no business asking Nigerians for the mandate to lead this country,” he said.

Yilwatda also called on Nigerians to be discerning in their political choices, urging them to distinguish between “noise from capacity, propaganda from preparation, and opportunism from genuine leadership.”
