A Human Rights Lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has described the decision by the President Muhammadu Buhari – led government to request a loan of $800m few days to the end of the regime, as abominable and completely reckless (Punch).
The Human Rights Lawyer, who spoke recently, while visibly criticizing the last minute award of contracts and the request for the loan by the outgoing government, declared; “The loans are also not acceptable. For example, the $800m (loan) that Buhari (govt) is asking for is abominable. It is completely reckless and irresponsible for an outgoing administration to be seeking a loan, especially an outrageous one for that matter. What are you going to achieve with the loan within a few days?”
Effiong, who visibly expressed the thought that the decision to borrow the outrageous amount was suspicious, especially considering the timing, alluded to the fact that the Buhari government should have allowed the new administration to consider whether the loan was important or not.”
According to him: “Why don’t you (the Buhari govt) allow the new administration to consider whether the loan is necessary or not?”
