The Supreme Court Responds to State Governors’ Suit Contesting the Legality of the EFCC

The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in a suit filed by 16 state governments challenging the constitutionality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other agencies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HEREā–¶

The decision was made on Tuesday by a seven-member panel of justices, led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji after lawyers argued their applications.

The suit, originally filed by the Kogi State Government through its Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, sought to challenge the legality of the EFCC. Other states, including Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Ogun, Nasarawa, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, Jigawa, Enugu, Benue, Anambra, Plateau, Cross-River and Niger, joined as co-plaintiffs.

Attorneys General of Anambra, Adamawa and Ebonyi recently announced their withdrawal from the suit.
