Buhari a failure in eight years, history will judge him – Bode George

Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described President Muhammadu Buhari’s eight years as a failure.

George said Buhari did not live up to the expectations of Nigerians in the last eight years.

Addressing journalists in Lagos on Saturday, the PDP chieftain said history will judge Buhari’s government because it failed to impact Nigerians positively.

He lamented that Buhari failed to ensure the security of Nigerians.

He berated Buhari for failing to deliver on his electoral promises of fighting corruption among other things.

According to George: “My personal assessment is that he failed, not completely in every sector, but if you do an examination and say you must have a minimum of 33%, then you can go to the next class, but they did not attain that 33%.

“I can give them maybe about 5%, even the 5% requires a lot of retrospection.

“So it is very very disheartening and heartbreaking that he failed in his number one job, which is to guarantee security of lives and property.

“So let’s put those promises now into his departure because that’s what will be written on the pages of history. Whatever a leader does during his time, it is on the pages of history.”

Tinubu vows to kill corruption, seeks Nigerians cooperation

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Friday took his successor and President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on a familiarisation tour of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari and Tinubu arrived at the Press Gallery at around 1:18pm shortly after observing Jummat at the Aso Villa Mosque.

“This is the gallery where you will be meeting members of the press,” Buhari told Tinubu as both men emerged from the waiting room of the Aso Chambers.

This came barely 24 hours after the President conferred upon Tinubu the highest national honour of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic and Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger on Vice President-elect, Kashim Shettima, at the State House Banquet Hall.

On Thursday, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo took Shettima on a tour of the VP wing of the State House.

Both leaders exchanged documents ahead of the official handover of power on Monday, May 29, 2023.

However, the President-elect prayed for good health to lead the country.

“May God help me to carry the burden, to face the challenge, and keep me in good health to fulfill the dream and aspiration of millions of our people,” Tinubu said after observing the Friday Jumaat prayers at the Presidential Villa mosque and touring the premises with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Tinubu said his goal was to, amongst other things, “kill corruption”.

“That is a covenant that you have to really pursue. Other than that, why are you in politics? My own is not identity politics. It’s not hunger or poverty politics. I have followed a man who has integrity, character and courage to say ‘Nigerians we need to change and change we have to. Change our mindset, kill corruption in our society,” he added.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to support the All Progressives Congress’s change agenda.

He also spoke on his ‘Renewed Hope’ agenda to revamp the economy, tackle security and poverty reduction, and what generally Nigerians should expect of him.

Buhari Must Be Told He Failed Woefully— Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has described the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), as the worst in the history of Nigeria, saying the outgoing president “must be told that he failed woefully and Nigerians are feeling the impact of that failure because we are all suffering.”

He said the president plunged the country into unimaginable poverty and insecurity, unlike what used to flourish under his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan.

Speaking at the commissioning of the headquarters of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, BSCVGs, in Makurdi, Ortom said that Buhari took Nigeria from the top to the bottom, making life miserable for all Nigerians.

He said, “I served under the then President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration and we all saw how Nigeria flourished under that administration. We all knew what the prices of goods and services were at the time.

“We also know what our exchange rate was at the time and what it is today. I want Nigerians to do a simple comparison and you will realise how bad it has been under this government and how Nigeria has been taken several years backwards by the Buhari government.

Nigerians can not forget me easily – Aisha Buhari

Aisha Buhari, the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, has lauded workers in her office for their dedication to duty.

Aisha said they worked under intense pressure to achieve the desired goals that will make Nigerians not to forget her easily.

My staff worked under serious pressure and achieve the desire goals at the end of the day,” she said.

Aisha said this when she spoke at a farewell meeting with members of staff at the Presidential Villa.

“You are the brains behind my success in the last eight years. I pray that, what is ahead of you in future is more rewarding than what we have done in the last eight years.

“Because, without you I wouldn’t have achieve what I have achieve so far and I think I am one of the first ladies that Nigerians can not forget easily,” she said.

The first lady expressed her profound gratitude for the tenacity, courage and commitment exhibited by the staff during the period.
