The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has concluded plans to release the results of the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, is scheduled to hold a press briefing in Abuja on Monday regarding the release of the results and related matters, as indicated in a notice circulated to journalists in the capital city.
The notice was made available by the Board’s Head of Public Relations, Fabian Benjamin, on Sunday.
However, there are indications that results that would be released on Monday are for the candidates that participated in the UTME in the first few days, while others would be released after “due diligence” is completed.
The board earlier clarified that the decision to delay the release of the results for a few days was made to allow ample time for thorough scrutiny.
This measure, according to the examination body, was taken to guarantee the credibility and integrity of the results, ensuring there are no doubts or uncertainties, especially concerning issues such as impersonation, mixed biometrics, and other forms of malpractices.
In the past week, more than 1.9 million candidates enrolled for the 2024 UTME across over 700 Computer-Based Test centers nationwide.
PDP wins Oyo 33 LG seats

The ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State has won all the chairmanship seats in the 33 local government areas of the state.
The local government election was conducted on Saturday by the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission.
The OYSIEC, Isiaka Olagunju (SAN), who announced the results of the poll on Sunday at the OYSIEC’s secretariat in Ibadan, said the PDP won in all 33 LGs.
Olagunju said the electoral commission would reflect on areas for improvement in its report to the government, saying no one can claim to be perfect.
Olagunju, who expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the successful outcome of the election, said: “Of course, we are not perfect. There are areas of improvement. Anyhow, we promise you that it will reflect in our report to the government. And I must not forget the governor of the state because I must tell you the truth. If he hasn’t shown commitment and dedication and support, we wouldn’t be where we are.”
Speaking to newsmen after the official declaration of the results, the Ibadan North-East Chairman-elect, Akintayo Ibrahim Akinsola, said: “The election was really peaceful, it was free, fair and credible.
“Everyone came out to vote for their preferred candidates. As you have heard now, the people voted for the PDP; they voted for us. And with regard to the mandate, it’s all about continuity, and we are focusing on health, education, infrastructural development. This is what we’re standing on, and we thank God.”
The official election results declared by OYSIEC showed that the PDP polled 66,325 votes at Akinyele Local Government Area while the All Progressives Congress recorded 3,477 votes.
The PDP won the North-East Local Government Area chairmanship with 17,920 votes, while the APC received 7158 votes.
At Ibadan South-East Local Government Area, the PDP won the election, having polled 22, 220 votes while the APC received 4, 265 votes.
The PDP also won the chairmanship of Ibadan North Local Government Area with 73, 240 votes, with the APC coming behind with 5,548 votes.
The chairmanship of Lagelu Local Government Area was clinched by the PDP with 65, 786 votes , while the APC polled 4,172 votes.
19 die in Okene-Lokoja highway crash

A tragedy struck on the Okene-Lokoja Highway in Kogi State on Sunday as a fatal crash claimed 19 lives.
According to a statement signed by the Federal Road Safety Corps spokesperson, Jonas Agwu, on Sunday, the collision, involving a Dangote truck and a Toyota Hiace bus, occurred when the truck driver, who had wrongfully overtaken a vehicle, collided head-on with the bus.
The crash investigation report attributed the tragedy to route violation and wrongful overtaking, emphasising compliance with traffic regulations, such as the compulsory use of seatbelts.
“The crash investigation report revealed that the crash involved two vehicles: a Dangote truck bearing the following registration details NSH680YJ, and a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number KMC455ZE.
“The Toyota Hiace bus loaded from Kano was on its lane on the highway when the Dangote truck driver who drove from Port Harcourt wrongfully overtook a vehicle and collided head-on with the bus. The impact of the collision resulted in an inferno that burnt the victims to death.
“According to the report, the crash which was caused by route violation ‘One Way’ and wrongful overtaking, involved 22 male people. Unfortunately, 19 people out of the 22 victims were killed and one injured. The remaining two victims who got rescued by the FRSC operatives without injuries survived the crash because they complied with traffic regulations on compulsory use of seatbelts,” Agwu said.
The resulting fire engulfed both vehicles, leading to the loss of lives and destruction of property.
Lawmaker proposes clampdown on illegal dump sites

The Chairman, Lagos House of Assembly Committee on Environment (Parastatals), Rasheed Shabi, has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to charge the Office of Drainage Services in the state to clear all drainage channels and ensure proper refuse disposal.
The lawmaker made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday.
Shabi, representing Lagos Mainland II, said the clearing of major canals across the state should be intensified to prevent flooding.
The lawmaker also called on the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development to clear illegal structures built on setbacks of canals across the state.
He equally urged the local governments and local council development areas to inculcate in people the habit of regular clearing of secondary drainage channels across the state.
While saying that drainages and canals had not been properly channeled, he said, “Though the causes of the flood have been natural and man-made, there is a need for the Ministries, Departments and Agencies to be proficient in their duties.
