Niger Republic’ll defend me — Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday the people of Niger Republic would defend him if anyone moved against him after leaving office.

He also said he deliberately shut the nation’s land borders to force Nigerians to patronise goods made in the country.

The President’s declaration, however, drew the ire of the Pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere and Middle Belt Forum, MBF, which described his stance as non-committal to Nigeria and that Nigerians would not miss him when he exits office.

But Buhari, who spoke extempore at the commissioning of the new corporate headquarters of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, in Abuja, said he was speaking his mind, reiterating his earlier decision to be far away from Abuja at the end of his administration.

Tinubu Is A Workaholic_ Lalong

Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, yesterday described the President-elect Bola Tinubu as a workaholic.

Lalong said anyone who is not hardworking cannot work with the former Lagos State Governor.

He spoke during the presentation of a book titled “40 Day and 40 Nights: Simon Lalong’s Struggles and Triumphs in the Nigerian Debacle” in Abuja.

The book was written by veteran journalist and Chairman of The Nation Editorial Board, Sam Omatseye.

Lalong who was the Director General of the Tinubu Presidential Campaign said: “I worked under Asiwaju. Anybody who works under Asiwaju would know if you are not hardworking; if you don’t have the patience for diligence and hard work, you will not work with him.

And one good thing about him is that anything you do that is appreciable, he will appreciate you.

Respect APC’s Zoning Arrangement, Legislative Aides Tell Yari, Others

Forum of National Assembly Legislative Aides from North West geopolitical zone, has called on aspirants in 10th National Assembly leadership race as well as senators and members-elect to support the choices recently made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the race.

The forum made the call in Abuja yesterday at a special press conference at the National Assembly.

The National Working Committee of APC had in its zoning arrangements for the leadership of 10th National Assembly, picked Senator Godswill Akpabio from South-South, as preferred candidate for Presidency of the Senate and Senator Jibrin Barau from North West for Deputy President of the Senate.

The party in a statement signed to that effect by its national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, picked Hon Tajudeen Abbas from North West for the Speakership position of the House of Representatives and Hon Benjamin Kalu from South East for Deputy Speakership position.

Buhari: My Government Invested In Infrastructure For Economic Growth And Prosperity

Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that making infrastructure development a key point of focus in his administration was a deliberate action to create wealth and make poverty alleviation easier.

Speaking in Abuja Tuesday at the virtual inauguration of three bridges, three secretariats and one road project undertaken by his administration, the President defended criticisms of the debt profile of his administration saying, “we do not act on infrastructure by accident.

“It has been a deliberate choice for our government as a tool to fight poverty, to create economic growth and employment and to open the path of prosperity for our people.”

He emphasized that while he shared the concerns of Nigerians, the debts are tied to projects that have been executed in very transparent circumstances and are there for everyone to see.

He added that the wealth of other nations is traceable to their investments in infrastructure made possible by debts redeemed over decades.
