Podium Collapses During Inauguration Of New Kano Governor, Yusuf Abba

This was seen by SaharaReporters in a video shared on social media by Premium Times, revealing the moment the podium with the new governor, Abba, his deputy and the new chief judge of the state, collapsed.

The stage which was set for the inauguration of the new Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, collapsed on Monday during the event at the Sani Abacha Stadium.

However, according to Channels TV, the three of them have been confirmed safe and no casualties were recorded from the incident.

This comes a few moments after a video which emerged from the inauguration ceremony showed how the teeming supporters of the new ruling party in the state, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) booed the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at the venue of the inauguration ceremony.

It was learned that when the first-class monarch arrived at the venue, an angry crowd started shouting at the top of their voices, showing their displeasure towards the king’s alleged affiliation with the state’s former governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Irate Youths Set Lagos Police Post Ablaze

There was a palpable fear as irate youths in the wee hours of Monday invaded a police post located on Olayiwola Close, in the Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos State.

It was reported by the Punch that they (angry youths) set the police post ablaze and injured a policeman on duty.

The motive behind the attack could not be ascertained but it was gathered that the policeman, who sustained an injury in the head, was rushed to the emergency centre at the toll gate along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway for prompt treatment.

It was learnt that while the station was on fire, officials of the Lagos State Fire Service were contacted and mobilised to the scene to salvage the situation.

The fire was put out but part of the building of the police post was affected. However, no weapon was stolen.

Confirming the attack, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, when contacted, said an investigation into the case had commenced, adding that “no suspect had been arrested.”
