Tinubu meets governors at Villa

The President, Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, is currently meeting members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, an assembly of the 36 State Governors, at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Although Tinubu met with governors of his party last Friday, Wednesday’s meeting is his first with all State Governors across various parties.

The meeting which began at 12:36pm had all governors in attendance except those of Kaduna, Katsina, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Ekiti, Sokoto, Ondo, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, and Katsina states.

However, the governors of Edo and Niger states are represented by their deputies.

Vice President Kashim Shettima is also attending the meeting.

I won’t disappoint Nigerians – SGF Akume

The newly sworn-in secretary to the Nigerian government, George Akume, says he will not disappoint Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu who appointed him to office.

Mr Akume addressed State House journalists after he was sworn in as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) by Mr Tinubu on Wednesday.

“To have been selected to serve in this exalted position out of over 200 million Nigerians, it is a challenge to serve in line with the oath I have taken today.

“I assure Nigerians I will do my best, I will not disappoint the President, I will not disappoint this country and I will not disappoint my party.

“I believe Nigerians will find fulfilment in my responsibilities as I discharge that in their own interest. It is an honour to serve the country and I am strongly persuaded that guided by Almighty God, I will do my best and Nigerians will really have to reap the dividends of democracy.

Tinubu will honour pledge to increase wages, fix refineries, Yuguda tells Labour

A former Governor of Bauchi state and Chairman, Board of Trustees BoT of the All Progressives Congress APC Professionals Forum, Mallam Isa Yuguda has assured the organized labour that President Bola Tinubu will not renege on his promise to increase the national minimum wage and also fix the country’s moribund refineries.

At a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, Yuguda who was flanked by the immediate-past deputy governor of Anambra state, Dr Nkem Okeke and National Coordinator of the Forum, Akeem Akintayo said Tinubu did no wrong in reminding Nigerians that ‘fuel subsidy was gone’ in his May 29 inaugural speech.

The former Aviation minister said, he, like many Nigerians, was only rankled by “the knee jerk reaction of oil marketers who proceeded to hoard fuel and cause hardship for Nigerians across the country”.

He said while the forum saw nothing wrong with President Tinubu’s reminder on fuel subsidy, it was taken aback by the subsequent strike threats by the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC.

Femi Gbajabiamila, the outgoing speaker of the house representatives, says many young Nigerians have lost faith in the country.

Gbajabiamila spoke on Wednesday at the valedictory session of the ninth house of representatives.

He said the country is losing some of its “best and brightest” brains to other countries, adding that urgent action must be taken to avert a “painful consequence”.

Gbajbiamila said despite the “considerable investments we have made to improve our public infrastructure and the numerous reforms we have enacted to change how we administer the government” the country still faces many “significant challenges”.
