What I Saw During 2023 Elections Scared Me–El-Rufai

Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has expressed concern over large incidents of vote buying which characterised the 2023 elections in the state, saying he was scared by what he saw.

The Governor who spoke during a media chat on Sunday lamented that many voters were insisting on accepting money before casting their ballots, a situation, which, according to him, led to defeat of many otherwise good candidates at the election.

“I saw good people that contested but lost the election. They lost simply because a voter was given N5,000 on election day,” the Governor said.

Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has challenged his predecessors to come out and swear with Holy Qur’an that they did not steal from the government’s coffers when they were in office.

He was reacting to criticisms of his performance in office by one of his predecessors, former Governor Ahmed Makarfi.

Makarfi had recently raised alarm that El-Rufai’s administration has issued notice to demolish structures housing nine of his companies.

Bandits Kill 9 In Kaduna

At least nine people have been reportedly killed by bandits during an attack at Ungwan Dakwa village, near Dogon Dawa ward in Birnin Gwari Local government area of Kaduna State.

Although the police authorities are yet to comment on the incident, the House of Assembly member-elect for Birnin Gwari State Constituency, Honourable Yahaya Birnin Gwari, confirmed the incident to Channels Television on Sunday.

In a telephone conversation, Gwari said the bandits stormed his community at about 2 pm on Saturday and immediately opened fire on the innocent residents who were going about their daily duties.

He said that some villagers sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack and were rushed to hospitals at neighbouring Funtua in Katsina State for treatment, while most of the villagers fled from their homes due to fear of a fresh attack by the bandits.

NASS Leadership Would Be Rubber Stamp Promax – Reps Member, Ogun

A member of the House of Representatives, Sergius Ogun has said the 10th National Assembly will be a ‘Rubber stamp Promax’.

Ogun, a former member of the ad-hoc committee on petroleum downstream and representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency, Edo state, disclosed this on Monday in a Channels Television interview monitored by DAILY POST.

According to him, it is unfortunate that the APC wants to impose leadership on the National Assembly.

He said the situation would be the final burial of the independence of the National Assembly.

“By putting names to the zoning of National Assembly Leadership, it would be a rubber stamp Promax”, he said.
