Top scorers in the Champions League after tonight’s goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland

Manchester City, who have won their Champions League group for seven years running, overcame a two-goal deficit at the break to take the lead in Group G with one game still to play. As the defending European champions slumbered through the first half, Openda’s deadly finishing twice punished them.

But some second-half substitutions brought a change of momentum and crucially three goals.

Foden was involved in each, as City move six points clear of Leipzig, who must settle for second spot.

Guardiola’s men next turn their attention to a Premier League fixture against Tottenham at the weekend, and they will meet Red Star in their final group game midway through next month.

Meanwhile, Leipzig will aim to follow back-to-back defeats with a win over Heidenheim on Saturday; they face Young Boys in their Group G finale.

Erling Braut Haaland continued his fine goal scoring form and was on target again tonight which saw him increase his UCL tally to five level with Manchester United’s striker, Ramus Hojlund who is expected to be in action against Galatasaray tomorrow.
