Tragedy in Ogun: Student Writing SSCE Killed by Truck in Devastating Crash — Others Critically Injured!
Tragic Accident Claims Life of Student in Ogun State

On Friday, a heartbreaking accident occurred along the Ikangba/Agoro Road in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, resulting in the death of a senior secondary school student. The young girl was participating in her ongoing Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) when the tragedy struck.
According to reports, the deceased attended SEICO Secondary School located in Ikangba. Another student from the same school sustained serious injuries but survived the incident.
The disaster took place shortly after the students finished their examination, while they were walking along the newly renovated Ikangba/Agoro Road. Eyewitnesses recount that a truck, coming from the Molipa area, suddenly lost control and veered off its lane, crashing into the students. The vehicle collided with the fence of a nearby Redeemed Christian Church before coming to a halt.
Eko Nicholas, an eyewitness, explained, “The students were obviously coming from their exams, as they had exam papers in their hands. The truck suddenly swerved and hit them. One girl died instantly, and another was critically injured. We’re praying she survives.”
Disconcertingly, this is not an isolated incident. Residents and local officials have raised concerns over the frequent accidents on this stretch of road, which has been recently rehabilitated. Many blame the lack of safety measures such as speed bumps and proper street lighting for these recurring tragedies.
Nicholas emphasized, “Since February, there have been six fatalities on this road, not counting numerous injuries. The government needs to act now—install speed bumps and streetlights to prevent further loss of lives. Several schools are located around here, and many children walk this route daily.”
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, stated in a phone interview, “Our officers in the area have verified the incident. Sadly, one student lost her life in this accident.”
