Two Die As Two-storey Building Collapses In Kano

Two individuals have reportedly died, while two others have been successfully rescued following a recent collapse of a two-storey building in Nomansland, situated within the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

Naija News gathered that the incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on Thursday during a significant rainfall.

The collapse was attributed to the overflow of a nearby waterway, which adversely impacted the structure located in close proximity to it.

The Public Relations Officer for the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed to Daily Trust that two individuals have been rescued and transported to a medical facility.

At the same time, two fatalities have been reported as rescue efforts continue.

Furthermore, the Kano State Emergency Management Agency disclosed on Wednesday that flooding in the state has resulted in 31 fatalities and the destruction of 5,280 homes.

Naija News recalls a similar incident that occurred over a month ago when a two-storey building under construction in Gujungu town, Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, collapsed.

The incident resulted in the deaths of three individuals.

The Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, Dutse, Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident in a press statement made available to newsmen.

“On the 27th of July, 2024, at about 10:00 hours, the Divisional Police Officer in Gujungu reported receiving a distress call about a building collapse along Kano road, Gujungu town in Taura Local Government Area,” the statement read.

Upon receiving the call, a team of policemen was immediately mobilized to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that a two-storey building under construction had collapsed, claiming three lives on the spot.

The victims have been identified as Nafi’u Mohd, 28, of Rijiyar Zaki, Ungogo LGA of Kano State; Abdurrahman Ibrahim, 60, of Danmadai village, Gagarawa Local Government Area; and Usman Lawan, 62, of the same address.

Additionally, four other individuals who were trapped in the collapse suffered varying degrees of injuries.

The injured, identified as Umar Lawan, 26; Aminu Mohd, 25; Mudansir Nasiru, 26; and Usman Mohd, 20, all from Rijiyar Zaki, Ungogo LGA of Kano State, have been taken to Jahun Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were labourers working on the construction site at the time of the collapse.
