Former Special Assistant to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Umar Ado, has claimed that on April 14, 2011, at a function marking the conclusion of Muhammadu Buhari’s presidential campaign, Buhari sobbed and declared that this would be his third and last attempt at running for office.
During an interview with AIT, Ado claimed that he persuaded Buhari to contest the presidential election again in 2015 after he lost in 2011, despite his previous statements suggesting he would not. He also said that he (Ado) was instrumental in the formation of the APC.
In Ado’s words: “If you remember on April 14, 2011 when Buhari was closing his campaign under CPC, he broke down and cried. He said that if he lost that election it would be his third and final time and that he would not contest again and that he would not also go to tribunal. Yet, CPC went to tribunal and there was no sitting of the tribunal that Buhari didn’t attend, yet Buhari contested again under APC in 2015. What happened since he said he was not going to contest and that they were not going to tribunal yet they went to tribunal and yet they contested again? The answer is me. It’s me that went to him and talked to him and convinced him”.
