Wase Hassan Takes Over from Adeyemo as New NASA Commandant, Artillery Corps Leadership Shifts [Photos]

The Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA) has announced the assumption of duty by Major General Adam Adamu Wase Hassan as its 38th Commandant.

Naija News reports that Hassan takes over from Major General John Olusegun Adeyemo, who now serves as the Commander Corps of Artillery (CCA).

The formal handover took place on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the school’s headquarters, as confirmed in a statement issued by the Lieutenant, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, NASA, Moneme Ogechukwu Angela.

In his valedictory address, Major General Adeyemo commended the staff and students of NASA for their commitment and performance, which he said contributed to the school’s achievements during his tenure.

He expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the trust reposed in him to lead the Artillery Corps.

Adeyemo reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery (NACA), promising to drive transformational initiatives aimed at boosting operational capability.

He also pledged the continued support of Corps Headquarters to NASA to ensure an enabling environment for effective training and enhanced troop competence.

Major General Wase Hassan, in his remarks, applauded his predecessor’s service and promised to consolidate on the gains recorded. He emphasised his readiness to advance capacity building through realistic, mission-oriented training programmes.

Naija News understands that the handing and taking over ceremony featured the decoration of the new Commandant with the NASA insignia, the presentation of the NASA flag, and the commissioning of new projects.

Several awards were also presented to officers and soldiers for outstanding performance and dedication.

Among the honourees were:

  • 32 Artillery Brigade, winner of the Best Target Round award during Exercise Vulcan Glow XI.
  • Recipients of the Commandant NASA Award for Outstanding Professional Performance during the same exercise.
  • The officer adjudged Best in Map Reading during the Captain-to-Major Practical Promotion Examination.

A special award for selfless service was also presented to Corporal Nancy Emmanuel, who donated additional waste bins at strategic locations in the barracks to promote hygiene and cleanliness.

The event concluded with the ceremonial lowering of the old NASA flag and hoisting of the new one, symbolising a seamless transition of leadership at the prestigious military institution.
