ABUJA – Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has stated the FCT Administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services while bolstering community-led methods to comprehensive sanitation.
At the celebration of World Water Day in 2023, the Minister who made this commitment urged stakeholders to work with the administration to quicken the pace of improvement in the Territory’s access to clean drinking water.
Represented by the Mandate Secretary, Area Council Services Secretariat, Hon. Ibrahim Abubakar Dantsoho, the Minister revealed that the FCT Administration has constructed 188 hand pump borehole water supply schemes, 6 motorised solar-powered borehole water schemes and rehabilitated 30 rural water supply schemes, culminating in improving access to safe drinking water for about 50,000 citizens.
She, however, used the occasion to reiterate that World Water Day is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis of about 2.2 billion people living without access to safe drinking water, stressing that the 2023 World Water Day is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.
