Water Day: Aliyu Expresses Commitment Toward Equitable Access To Water

ABUJA – Dr. Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, Min­ister of State for the Federal Cap­ital Territory (FCT), has stated the FCT Administration’s com­mitment to ensuring equitable access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services while bolstering community-led methods to com­prehensive sanitation.

At the celebration of World Water Day in 2023, the Minister who made this commitment urged stakeholders to work with the administration to quicken the pace of improvement in the Ter­ritory’s access to clean drinking water.

Represented by the Mandate Secretary, Area Council Services Secretariat, Hon. Ibrahim Abu­bakar Dantsoho, the Minister revealed that the FCT Adminis­tration has constructed 188 hand pump borehole water supply schemes, 6 motorised solar-pow­ered borehole water schemes and rehabilitated 30 rural water sup­ply schemes, culminating in im­proving access to safe drinking water for about 50,000 citizens.

She, however, used the occa­sion to reiterate that World Wa­ter Day is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis of about 2.2 billion people living without access to safe drinking water, stressing that the 2023 World Water Day is about accel­erating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.
