Nigeria’s lackluster performance in this international break continued when they drew another match against Zimbabwe, their second such result in as many days following a similar outcome against Lesotho.
Speaking of which, following the game and particularly in front of the January AFCON Tournament in Cote D’ivoire, there has been much talk of Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro being fired.
There are some things which need to be addressed by NFF rather than sacking the Portuguese international.
First is in the goalkeeping position where Francis Uzoho has been the first choice.
Another goalkeeper needs to be recruited especially from the Nigerian Professional Football League to serve as competition to him.
Also, the usual instability in the team whenever Victor Osimhen is unavailable can be reduced if new tactics are put in place by the team coach to not build the team around one player.
If these are done, flexibility can be witnessed in the team and there would necessarily be less concession of goal especially due to goalkeeper’s error or negligence.
