Who is Peter Obi and the labour party to tell NLC what to do? NLC Chairman, Joe Ajaero asks

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, has said that the Labour Party does not control the Nigerian Labour Congress, despite the fact that the Labour Union founded the party.

Joe Ajaero mentioned this in an exclusive interview with Channels Television. Ajaero, who confirmed the party’s association with the NLC, denied that the political party is the union’s sponsor.

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress was commenting after the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) achieved an arrangement with the federal government to postpone the planned strike slated for Wednesday.

Recall that during the new President’s inaugural speech, Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated that his new government will eliminate subsidies. The withdrawal of fuel subsidies is currently eliciting varied opinions from many notable Nigerians and has resulted in fuel scarcity in several parts of the country.

In response to the news, Joe Ajaero stated, “But even when this question of subsidies was discussed by many presidential contenders. The NLC was unequivocal, and I recall saying that if the Labour Party candidate entered into that, he would face double penalty from the Labour Movement since it contradicts our demands and the ideology for which the Labour Party was created.”

“If people are going into blackmail, it should not be such, we determine what happens in the Labour Party to a large extent,” he continued. Who is the Labour Party and who is their candidate to instruct the NLC what to do? What we’re doing today is inconsistent with what we’ve been doing on fuel subsidies.”
