Why Virgil Van Dijk Was Suspended For One Further Game

Van Dijk has been suspended for an extra game for using ‘abusive and insulting’ language towards a match official.

The Liverpool defender, who admitted to acting inappropriately and using offensive language toward a match official after receiving a red card against Newcastle United, has been given a one-game further suspension and fined £100,000. He won’t feature in Liverpool’s next game against Wolves. Van Dijk will now sit out the trip to Wolves on September 16.

Even though Virgil Van Dijk was sent off in the 28th minute during Liverpool’s clash with the magpies, the Reds managed to emerge victorious in the match.

Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon netted the first goal of the match in the 25th minute to put his side ahead of the Reds. Darwin Nunez netted a brace in the late minutes of the game to help Liverpool secure a shocking win over Newcastle United. The 77th minute substitute scored two brilliant goals against the magpies with his first goal coming in the 81st minute while he scored the second goal in the 93rd minute.
