“Wike undermining democratic processes in Fubara’s government with the help of federal might”

Chief Emeka Charles Kalu, a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has called on Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State, to focus on his ministerial duties and allow the current Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to govern without interference.

The appeal follows the ongoing conflict between Wike and Governor Fubara, which recently escalated with the burning of three local government headquarters after the conclusion of local council elections.

Kalu, who serves as the National Coordinator of the Peoples Democratic Party Coalition (PDPCO) and the Director-General of Global Initiatives for Good Governance (GIGG), expressed deep concern over the rising tensions in Rivers State, noting that the unrest is disrupting peace and governance in the state.

Kalu lamented the destruction of the local government headquarters, which were constructed with public funds. He emphasized that political power is temporary and should not be wielded at all costs.

“Political power is transient, and like life itself, it cannot be held permanently by one individual,” Kalu told Daily Independent.

He added: “When Chief Wike was governor, he managed to complete his eight years in office without clashing with key stakeholders. He should now allow Sim Fubara the same opportunity to fulfill his campaign promises to the people.”

Kalu stressed that the ongoing crisis in Rivers State could be resolved if Wike withdraws from interfering in Governor Fubara’s administration and focuses on his responsibilities as the FCT Minister.

He urged Wike to prioritize the development and security needs of Abuja, which demand his full attention.

“As a father figure, Chief Wike should step back and allow Governor Fubara to govern without interference or the use of federal power to undermine democratic processes,” Kalu stated.

He also called on the APC-led federal government to intervene and ensure Wike ceases his involvement in Rivers State’s political affairs, urging them to prevent further disruption of Fubara’s administration.
