Wilfred Ndidi Suspended for Nigeria Playoff Final: Ikpeba Calls on Lookman to Lead

Nigeria will have to face the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday without Wilfred Ndidi, who is suspended for the crucial 2026 World Cup playoff final after picking up an early booking in the 4-1 win over Gabon.

Wilfred Ndidi‘s yellow card on Thursday means he will sit out the match that will decide which side reaches the intercontinental playoffs in March 2026.

His absence is a setback for the Super Eagles, but the return of Semi Ajayi offers head coach Eric Chelle some relief. Ajayi missed the semi-final due to card accumulation but is cleared to play in Rabat.

The match will take place at the newly built Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Nigeria defeated Gabon on Thursday evening.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba has voiced concern over Ademola Lookman’s recent performances for the national team.

Lookman, who holds the crown as Africa’s best footballer, struggled to stamp his authority on the match against Gabon and was taken off around the sixty-minute mark.

Chukwueze also had a quiet outing and was replaced by Chidera Ejuke, while Moses Simon took Lookman’s place.

Speaking on SuperSport, Ikpeba said Lookman is still trying to rediscover his spark after transfer complications kept him out at the start of the season.

“I will like to see more from Lookman, we have not seen the Lookman of old,” Ikpeba said.

“We can understand, he’s short of match fitness and that form is not there yet. The likes of Chukwueze and Lookman, we need to see more from these two players.”
