Femi Ajewole, popularly known as Alfa Sule, has alleged that gospel comedian and preacher, Ayo Ajewole, better known as Woli Agba, has turned their late father’s church into his personal ministry, claiming the late founder’s legacy has gradually faded from the church.
Speaking on the recent episode of The Ajibola Akinyefa Podcast, which Alfa Sule said he played a key leadership role in the church while his father was alive but deliberately avoided presenting it as his personal ministry.
“By God’s grace, during Baba’s lifetime, I was the one in charge even when Baba was alive. But one thing about me is that I have always preferred working behind the scenes,” he said in Yoruba.
He explained that even after becoming a pastor in the church, he remained committed to preserving his father’s vision.
“I never called it my church. I would always sit at the back and observe everything. When it was time to preach, I would go to the altar and preach. We thank God because He always manifested Himself whenever we ministered,” he said.
Alfa Sule claimed he later discovered that significant changes had been made after the church relocated.
“I discovered that they have taken over. They have changed the name of the church. Recently, I realised that it is now his church. To me, Daddy’s church remains Daddy’s church. We were only continuing what he founded there.”
According to him, the way the church is currently being run gives the impression that it now belongs to Woli Agba.
“The way he is operating now, it looks like he has turned it into his own church. As far as I’m concerned, I was there for years, and I never addressed it as my church,” he said.
He further alleged that his late father’s name and legacy were no longer visible within the ministry.
“They have changed the name. Anything that has to do with Daddy is not really pronounced again in that church,” he said.
“I still hold on to the vision God gave my father. But when I went there, I saw that there is nothing you can trace to my father in that church again.”
Drawing a comparison with other ministries, Alfa Sule said churches founded by late clerics usually preserve the memory of their founders.
“Even when pioneers have gone to be with the Lord, you still see their pictures and their legacy being celebrated. But there is nothing like that again concerning my father.”
Despite his concerns, Alfa Sule said he was not interested in disputing the leadership of the church.
“I’m not ready to fight over it. I know it is Daddy’s vision, and I also have my own vision. If he has the leading to convert it to his own, I have no problem with that,” he said.
