Yakubu Mahmood: The constitution is not an ordinary document, it is the union agreement–Hilda Dokubo

Hilda Dokubo, the chairperson of the Rivers State Labour Party, has accused the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, and a judge of attempting to achieve what administrative law has never done in the history of Nigeria. Dokubo made these allegations on Twitter.

The controversy arose when the judge assigned to handle the case regarding President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s failure to secure 25% of the votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the 2023 presidential election did not show up in court, causing a stir of reactions online.

In response to this development, veteran Nollywood actress Hilda Dokubo took to her official Twitter account to emphasize the significance of the constitution, stating that it is not just an ordinary document but a union agreement. She expressed concern that those who disregard the Nigerian constitution are leading the country towards the dissolution of the union.

Dokubo further asserted that the actions of Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC Chairman, and the judge who failed to deliver the ruling, are about to accomplish what previous constitutional conferences could not achieve. Her statement suggests that their actions may have far-reaching consequences for the country.

By raising these concerns and making these allegations, Hilda Dokubo highlights the potential implications of the judge’s absence and questions the commitment to upholding the constitution and the unity of Nigeria. Her remarks on social media shed light on the significance of this case and the broader implications it may have for the country.
