You are paying Borno State teachers N7000, can that even feed a family for a day – Festus Osifo

President Of the Trade Union Congress, Comrade Festus Osifo while being interviewed by Arise News Television made his commentaries on some issues concerning the minimum wage of workers in Nigeria.

Recently, it was reported by newsmen that not less than 8000 primary school teachers in Borno State are being underpaid by the Government. It was said that these teachers were being placed on a N8,000 to N15,000 monthly salary which is way below the generalized minimum wage of the country.

Festus Osifo was quite shocked by this information, claiming that it is inhuman to be paying teachers this kind of low salaries. He was baffled about how these teachers are being expected to survive with these salaries knowing fully well that the cost of living in Nigeria has skyrocketed.

In an interview with Arise News Television, he said: “Just watching that story of what is coming out of Borno State I am really shocked you have people that are earning 7000 Naira per month that is unheard of. You said that you conducted a test and that people didn’t pass if you are sure these people did not pass then why are they still teaching? For them to be teachers they still go to classrooms to teach and you are paying them 7000 Naira can that even feed a family for a day this is inhuman”.
