Youth agenda, entrepreneurship bank top Tinubu’s govt list – Sunday Dare

According to Vanguard, the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, has emphasized the upcoming government’s prioritization of youth programs and urged Nigerian youth to actively engage with government policies to reap the benefits.

During a virtual conference organized by the Progressive Youth of the United Kingdom, with the theme “Nigeria’s Rebirth and the Triumph of Hope,” the minister delivered a keynote address on Saturday. He acknowledged the lackluster participation of certain government programs designed to empower and upskill Nigerian youth, urging them to seize every opportunity for success.

Mr. Dare encouraged young Nigerians to overcome the trust deficit between the youth and the government by taking a leap of faith and applying for various available programs. He assured them that numerous opportunities existed, which they could access simply by searching online.

Sharing his personal experience, the minister spoke about his relationship with President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He recounted how the former Governor of Lagos State sought him out and entrusted him with responsibilities when he was a young journalist.

Mr. Dare also highlighted Tinubu’s pivotal role in sustaining the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO) Movement during a challenging period under military rule. He praised Tinubu’s visionary leadership in developing Lagos, his ability to build effective teams, and his commitment to progressive politics.

Mr. Dare reassured Nigerian youth that the incoming administration would inherit approved programs and plans aimed at benefiting the youth of all backgrounds and educational levels.

He emphasized that African youth faced common challenges in terms of opportunities, which necessitated investment in skills and ideas. As a partner of the youth, Asiwaju Tinubu would unlock their potential through legislation and the provision of funding.

The minister further highlighted the government’s focus on the youth agenda, mentioning initiatives such as the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund, which has received a promise of N75 billion from the Federal Government. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to establish a Youth Entrepreneurship Bank and a Youth Development Agency.

Mr. Dare emphasized Tinubu’s belief in the power of education to alleviate poverty and mentioned the National Sports Industry Policy, which incentivizes investment in sports.

The virtual conference, attended by Nigerian youth both within the country and abroad, featured speakers such as Amb Tukur Yusuf Buratai, former Chief of Army Staff, and Hon. Dayo Israel, National Youth Leader of the APC.

The event served as a platform for discussing the empowerment and development of Nigerian youth, showcasing the commitment of the incoming government to prioritize their needs and aspirations.
