Zamfara Residents Give Canoe, N19 Million Protection Levy To Terrorists To Have Access To Farmlands

Residents of 14 towns in the state’s Anka Local Government Area paid around 19 million to terrorists operating in Zamfara as a protection charge.

A canoe was also purchased by the community for the gunmen in advance of the rainy season.

According to information obtained by SaharaReporters, jihadists are in charge of the majority of the impacted areas.

Residents claimed that the decision to relocate was made necessary as a result of the government and security agencies’ seeming abandonment of them to their fate and abandonment of any notion of protecting farms.

They bemoaned the constant murders and kidnappings carried out in the localities by armed guys with impunity.

Security personnel and civilians have both recently been the targets of attacks by terrorists operating in the state.

Agrarian communities in the state have also been terrorised by gangs who raid villages, steal cattle and kidnap residents for ransom.

In 2019, the state government signed a peace agreement with the gunmen.

About 15 brand new Hilux vehicles and cash gifts were also given to leaders of different ‘repentant’ gangs of bandits by the governor in 2020.

But despite all these, communities in the state are still being attacked and residents kidnapped and/or killed.
