Zelensky: Israeli Patriot System Has Been Operational in Ukraine for a Month

According to a report by The Times Of Israel, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky revealed that his country has deployed a U.S.-made Patriot air defense system supplied by Israel, saying it has already been in use for several weeks.

Speaking at a press briefing, Zelensky told reporters: “The Israeli (Patriot) system is operating in Ukraine. It has been operating for a month. We will receive two Patriot systems in the fall.”

The Patriot system, developed in the United States, is one of the most advanced air defense platforms in the world. It is designed to intercept and destroy incoming missiles and aircraft, providing protection for strategic sites and population centers. Ukraine has sought such capabilities urgently as Russian forces continue to target cities, infrastructure, and energy facilities with missiles and drones.

Although Israel has previously been cautious about supplying weapons directly to Kyiv, the delivery of a Patriot system underscores a shift in international support for Ukraine. The addition of two more systems later this year is expected to significantly strengthen Ukraine’s defensive shield as it prepares for possible escalations in Russian attacks during the winter months.

Kyiv has repeatedly appealed for more sophisticated Western air defense technology, arguing that its existing systems are stretched thin by the scale of Russian strikes. The introduction of the Patriot system marks an important upgrade, potentially enhancing Ukraine’s ability to protect both civilians and critical infrastructure.

Zelensky’s announcement highlights Ukraine’s growing military cooperation with international partners, as well as the continued effort to build a multi-layered defense network capable of countering the evolving threats from Moscow.
