Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), has claimed that he will stop campaigning for the presidency if anyone can prove that he misused funds received while serving as governor of Anambra state.
The statement was made by the former Anambra state governor while he was speaking to Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
He urged the people working in the government to stop stealing public funds.
Obi claims that throughout his eight years in office as governor of Anambra state, he was paid more than half a trillion naira and that he did not steal any of the money.
He also called on the public to come and challenge his claims alleging that if they succeeded, he would stop campaigning for the presidency.
” Stop the Stealing. I received about half a Trillion Naira as governor in 8 years. If anyone can show me where 1% of it was misappropriated, I will stop campaigning. ” Peter Obi said to Nigerians in the UK.
Similarly, Peter Obi has refuted rumors that he is currently traveling throughout the United States and Europe to solicit financial support for his campaign.
According to Naija News, Obi was responding to a call made by a support group operating under the aegis of Tinubu- Shettima Connect, which requested that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) disqualify him from the presidential race in 2023 due to violation of the Electoral Act on campaign funding.
