Former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has declared that no individual or group can prevent him from visiting any part of Nigeria.

Obi made the statement while reacting to threats and warnings that surfaced after a security incident in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.
The former governor spoke during a visit to Peter University Achina in Anambra State, where he addressed the issue and insisted that every Nigerian has the constitutional right to move freely across the country.
“I am a Nigerian and I am free to go to any part of this country. It is a constitutional right that nobody can take away from me,” he said.
The former presidential candidate was responding to comments circulating on social media that warned him against travelling to certain areas of the country following the incident in Edo State.
Obi explained that he recently travelled to Rivers State despite advice from some individuals who urged him to cancel the trip.
According to him, the visit went ahead because it was based on an earlier invitation he had already accepted.
The Labour Party chieftain also spoke about his political future, stating that he intends to remain active in Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“I’m not desperate to be the President of Nigeria, but I’m determined to see Nigeria work,” he said.
Obi added that Nigeria needs reforms that will create opportunities for citizens and strengthen public institutions across the country.
“We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody,” he said.
He also explained why he decided to move from the Labour Party to the African Democratic Congress, noting that internal leadership disagreements and court-related controversies within the party influenced his decision to seek another political platform ahead of the next election cycle.

The comments come days after a tense security incident in Benin City where gunshots were reportedly fired near a political gathering attended by Obi and leaders of the African Democratic Congress.
Security agencies later confirmed that investigations were launched into the incident, with one suspect reportedly arrested in connection with threats linked to the episode.
