The founding interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Osun Governor, Chief Bisi Akande, has won his polling unit for the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in Saturday’s governorship election.
Bisi Akande voted earlier on Saturday at Polling Unit 12, Ward 4, in the Atogbade area of Ila-Orangun, Ila Local Government Area of the state.
The APC governorship candidate, Oyebamiji, polled 181 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who secured 121 votes at the polling unit.
Akande, fondly known as “Baba Omokeekeeke” by his political allies and supporters, served as governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003 on the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
After his tenure as governor, he served as national chairman of the AD, Action Congress (AC), and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) between 2003 and 2014.
He later became the founding interim National Chairman of the APC following the merger of opposition parties that led to the formation of the party in 2013.
Akande’s victory at his polling unit comes as the APC seeks to wrestle control of the state from the incumbent PDP administration in the governorship election.
